Dear students,

Our goals are always set on providing the best in academia, services, and quality. With us working together, student body, academics and administration we are able to continue to set goals and reach them.

With the approaching seventh academic year we would like to announce some of our recent accomplishments. AOU – Lebanon has been classified as Centre for Quality Assurance among all branches by the University Council, an attestation to the quality that is practiced and ensured at AOU – Lebanon. The third cohort of graduates will soon be enjoying the privileges of the British degree in addition to the Lebanese one. Offers of acceptance were made to a selection from our distinguished students to pursue graduate/ MA studies at the American University of Beirut. From previous cohorts, a number of graduates secured places at MA courses through participating in entry exams to the Lebanese University, where some of our previous bachelor holders are graduating soon from the Lebanese University with Masters degree. One of our graduates secured Fulbright Scholarship to pursue graduate studies at a university in USA. With these distinguished accomplishments AOU – Lebanon has secured confirmation that the standards of its programmes match those of the oldest and most prestigious universities in Lebanon as well as internationally, thus fulfilling its pledge of quality in education. In the world of work, our elite graduates, continue to take on head positions in Lebanon, the Gulf and some African states, and all of our graduates have secured jobs.

In the field of research, the university being the National Information Point for Research funded by the European Community in Lebanon, offered a series of workshops, some of which were hosted by the American University of Beirut, USJ, NDU and other universities, to introduce the European Seventh Research Framework FP7 and its funded themes.

Research Centers are now affiliated to our programmes through cooperative agreements with European partners. Our Centre for Applied Linguistic Research CALR has offered nine workshops and research seminars to researchers in the field. Centres affiliated to our Computer and Business programmes will commence their activities in September.

As for student activities, community service was on top of the list of concerns of our students. The student body led a campaign for reforestation, in cooperation with academic and administrative staff in areas damaged by fire.  Also, a number of our students, supported by academic and administrative staff, organized blood donation campaign, in cooperation with the Red Cross, where they donated blood, in addition to preparing data base for the Red Cross “Donors on Demand” from the student body.

As for student services, university administration continues to collect student feedback on recent improvements made in response to their comments and recommendations, as gathered from student surveys and other sources. Students who were with us from earlier periods can identify the improvements that were made to the extent that student services at AOU – Lebanon have become one of the best services at university level in the whole of Lebanon.

As for our future plans, increasing tracks within the offered majors, comes first in our priority list. The Business programme is offering now five tracks in the major, the Information Technology and Computing Programme is offering now four tracks in the major, and the English and Literature programme is offering two tracks within the major. In addition, we are working with Britain on activating the Masters programme in all offered disciplines, starting with the MBA.
